Supporting Sophomores during their Transition to IMSA
The purpose of the Navigation Program for incoming sophomores at IMSA is to provide a safe, supportive environment for students to process issues concerning their transition to the Academy and to present them with learning experiences which will help them be successful here. The program, through a common set of experiences, enables students to connect to one another, the academy, IMSA resources, and one or two IMSA adults outside of the classroom and the residence hall.
Navigation sessions aim at building up identity, community, and leadership and is a graduation requirement that all sophomore students must attend. The class is taught by IMSA staff and is coordinated through IMSA school counselors.
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Navigation is aligned with several of the UN Sustainable Development Goals; namely Wellness (ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages), Quality Education (ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all), and Gender Equality.
