IMSA Announces Appointment of Sherrick, Pereira to Board of Trustees

Aurora, IL, January 17, 2017 – The Board of Trustees of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) announces the appointment of Dr. Rebecca L. Sherrick and Mr. Sergio Pereira to its 17 member governing body.

“Both Dr. Sherrick and Mr. Pereira are innovative leaders and collaborators with demonstrated success in turning new insights into ideas and solutions that positively impact the growth of an organization,” said IMSA President Dr. José M. Torres. “As IMSA endeavors toward its next 30 years, the guidance and contributions of Dr. Sherrick and Mr. Pereira will be instrumental to the strengthening of our institution.”

IMSA Board Chair, Dr. Erin W. Roche added, “We welcome the diverse perspectives of Dr. Sherrick and Mr. Pereira to further strengthen IMSA's governance and longterm planning as well as IMSA's continued work to trailblaze equity and excellence across the state realizing our mission to ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition.”

Dr. Rebecca L. Sherrick has served as president of Aurora University since 2000 after serving for 20 years as a faculty member and senior administrator at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois for doctoral studies on a William Randolph Hearst Fellowship and completed her Ph.D. in history with specializations in American and Latin American history. She is active in a wide range of professional and civic organizations.

"An important component of the IMSA mission is the advancement of STEM learning throughout the State of Illinois," said Sherrick. "I look forward to being part of this larger effort to help students prepare for vital leadership roles in the STEM economy."

Mr. Sergio Pereira has been President of Quill.com since October 2013.  He is a five-year Quill.com veteran who previously led the company’s marketing and merchandising initiatives. His achievements included rebranding the company as Quill.com in 2009, and launching the highly successful Dunder Mifflin office products line via an innovative licensing deal with NBC Universal. He attended Syracuse University where he earned a B.S., and also holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

“I am looking forward to working with Dr. Torres and the Board of Trustees to advance IMSA’s mission of nurturing creative, ethical and scientific minds that advance the human condition, and ensure we do so with a broad and diverse representation of Illinois students from across our state," said Pereira.

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) develops creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
