Fine Arts – Choir Teacher/Program Assistant
Biography
Maria Barnhill is the choir director at Illinois Math and Science Academy. She received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Eastern Illinois University and her master’s degree in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music. Music has always had a powerful presence in Mrs. Barnhill’s life whether it was singing in school, church, and community choirs or teaching choir and voice lessons. She believes in the power of singing as a means of expressing one’s innermost self, as a way to relate to others, to build meaningful connections, and to be a part of a community that works towards the same goals together. As a teacher, Mrs. Barnhill strives to encourage students to connect to the world around them through music and help them use the skills they learn in her classroom to grow and develop into unique, kind, and caring individuals.
