ASCD PBLNet
An Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Network
PBLNet is a network of educators from varied contexts and levels of education united by our common interest in problem-based learning. We value PBL as a natural organizing center for curriculum coupled with an instructional strategy. PBL places students in a situation in which they learn through investigation and resolution of relevant problems.
History
Problem-based learning (PBL) has been an institutional initiative of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy for several years. Our enthusiasm was fueled by the success of PBL at the medical school level and through contact with leading proponents of problem-based learning nationwide. As interest in PBL grew in K-12 education, private funding was secured through The Hitachi Foundation and The Harris Family Foundation to establish a national Center for Problem-Based Learning. The Center promotes PBL in K-16 education through research, innovative teaching, and service to the educational community. Through the efforts of many individuals across the nation, the application of PBL within classrooms everywhere has grown considerably. A network to connect these innovative educators is most appropriate.
