The culminating lesson of the unit, Connecting to Kaleidoscopes, taps the students’ working knowledge of the orderly properties of reflection and symmetry. The students predict and draw the patterns that would be generated by triangles when observed through a 3-mirror kaleidoscope. They then construct their own equilateral kaleidoscope using film canisters and microscope slides.
