Learning Summary
At this point in the unit, students should have enough evidence to identify two leading suspects.
In the lesson Can you Reach the Legal Standard of "Probable Cause"? the class reaches consensus,
and writes a formal request to obtain fingerprints from these suspects. Two short readings help them accomplish this task by exploring the analogy between the development of criminal court cases and scientific models.
Learning Objectives The students will:
- write summaries of the evidence, and their analyses and conclusions up to this point;
- unify these into a cohesive whole that identifies one or two specific suspects and presents an overview of the case against them; and,
- use this written document to convince the district attorney to allow the leading suspect(s) to be brought in for questioning and to be fingerprinted.
