Office of the Executive Secretary to the Governor

Congratulations on your appointment to the RAMPS panel. As you are aware, the Japanese investors have asked for a full disclosure and assessment of the natural and anthropomorphic hazards which are present in the Metropolis area. I know that you will do a fine job at summarizing the potential risks involved. You and the other members of the panel have been selected because of your unwavering committment to Illinois and your expertise at risk assessment.

It seems that two hazards are of most interest to these investors. Coming from the Pacific Rim area (Kobe, Japan), they are familiar with the danger posed by earthquakes and want to know how big of a threat to their investment this may be. In addition, two of the investors had partial financial interest in the recent movie "Twister" and would like to know the potential for tornadoes in this area. Given that Illinois is ranked fourth in tornado frequency, this is definitely something you should look into.

I expect a full report within one week. Being heavily involved in the use of technology, the investors have requested that your final report be published on the World Wide Web using HTML. This report should include maps indicating the location of hazards, maps or tables displaying your data, seismicity maps, tornado frequency maps, and maps of the risk levels for each hazard.
