The Wall Street Journal Recognizes IMSA

In the 11/30/07 print version of the The Wall Street Journal’s Weekend Journal, the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is one of only 40 public and private college preparatory programs from throughout the country and the globe to be featured in the front page article entitled How to Get Into Harvard.”

The Journal based its international rankings by looking “at the freshman classes at eight top colleges and compiled a list of the students’ high-school alma maters. The survey ranked the high schools based on the number of students sent to those eight colleges, divided by the high school’s number of graduates in 2007, limiting the scope to schools that had senior classes of at least 50.”

This is the second time IMSA has been prominently featured in The Wall Street Journal for stories related to college preparation.  In April of 2004, The Wall Street Journal published a ranking of “successful high schools across the country.” IMSA was recognized as one of the nation’s best values for its “success rate” in sending students (Class of 2003) to 10 prestigious colleges.

IMSA President Dr. Max McGee said this recognition is a tribute to the IMSA community.

“I am so appreciative of the entire IMSA community for igniting the incredible minds of our students and creating the 24/7 environment that nurtures these talented young men and women from diverse geographic, ethnic and economic backgrounds,” he said. “Our staff also provides growing statewide programs that help elementary and middle school students, especially the underrepresented, to excel in mathematics and science, thereby preparing them for acceptance to IMSA and other competitive programs.”
