IMSA® Seeks “Explorers” for New Lake County Summer Science Program

AURORA—The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) Kids Institute®  is seeking applicants for its summer Science Explorers program to be held at its new location in Lake County.   The Lake County program, for students entering 5th or 6th grades, is made possible in partnership with the Lake County Regional Office of Education and Rondout School District #72 and the support of the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education.

During the program, to be held July 14-18, 2008 from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., students will explore agricultural and geological mysteries of ancient cultures around the world.  Through inquiry-based experiences, participants will navigate a dense jungle, supply water to a desert farm and build the 8th wonder of the ancient world.   The $225 cost includes a daily lunch and snack, a t-shirt and supplies.  For more information or to register, call 630-907-5950 or email summerprograms@imsa.edu.  The deadline to register is Friday, May 30, 2008 and is limited to the first 20 applicants

IMSA President Dr. Max McGee said this year’s expansion of Science Explorers is made possible thanks to the generous support and hard work of educators in Lake County.

“I especially appreciate Lake County’s educational leaders for making this partnership successful.  Regional Superintendent Roycealee Wood and Rondout District 72’s Superintendent Jenny Wojcik were particularly supportive in making IMSA’s unique summer programs more accessible to students in Lake County,” Dr. McGee said.  “Several other superintendents from the Lake County Illinois Association of School Administrators also provided outstanding support.  We look forward to extending programs and services to teachers and students throughout Lake County as we strive to work together to stimulate excellence in math and science education.” McGee said.

Designed and taught by IMSA students under the guidance of IMSA staff, the new Lake County Science Explorers program will be held at Rondout School, 28593 N. Bradley Rd. in Lake Forest.
