AURORA—Registration is now open for ninth-graders in the Chicago and East St. Louis areas to participate in the PROMISE - Early Involvement Program (EIP) sponsored by the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA). The application deadline is Tuesday, October 16, 2007. Applications are now available online at http://www.imsa.edu/admissions/multicultural/EIPAPP07.pdf.

In its 17th year, PROMISE - EIP is designed to help African-American, Latino and economically disadvantaged students improve their mathematics, science and communications skills as well as increase their competitiveness if they choose to apply to IMSA.

The Chicago Saturday sessions will be held at Loyola University of Chicago (Lake Shore Campus), November 3 through February 16. The East St. Louis Saturday sessions will be held on the same dates at East St. Louis High School.

Both the Chicago and East St. Louis sessions will include discovery-based and collaborative activities, as well as some preparation for the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Students develop research, decision-making, and self-motivation skills while studying mathematics, science and English.  Students also will attend an all-day retreat at IMSA on December 15.

Ninth grade African-American, Latino and economically disadvantaged students who reside in the Chicago or East St. Louis areas are eligible for the program. Students can direct questions to IMSA Admissions at (630) 907-5059 or 1-800-500-IMSA.
