IMSA® Seeks “Explorers” for New Carbondale Summer Science Program
AURORA—The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) Kids Institute® is seeking applicants for its summer Science Explorers program to be held at its new location in Carbondale. The Carbondale program, for students entering 5th or 6th grades, is made possible in partnership with the Unity Point School District, Carbondale School District, Giant City School District, Southern Illinois University and the support of the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education.
The program will be held daily from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., July 21-25, 2008 at Unity Point School, 4033 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale. During the camp, participants will
explore agricultural and geological mysteries of ancient cultures around the world. Through inquiry-based experiences, participants will navigate a dense jungle, supply water to a desert farm and build the 8th wonder of the ancient world. The $225 cost includes a daily lunch and snack, a t-shirt and supplies.
To download an application, visit www.imsa.edu/studentprograms, and click on Summer@IMSA or for more information call 630-907-5950 or email summerprograms@imsa.edu. The deadline to register is Friday, May 30, 2008.
IMSA President Dr. Max McGee said this year’s expansion of Science Explorers is made possible thanks to the generous support of educators in Jackson County.
“Thanks to our partners including Unity Point School District, Carbondale School District, Giant City School District and Southern Illinois University, IMSA is thrilled to have a tangible presence in southern Illinois,” McGee said. “We are excited about this first step and look forward to working with school districts across the region as we strive to work together to stimulate excellence in math and science education.”
