Early Involvement Program students visit IMSA.

SEPTEMBER 2006

AURORA—Registration is now open for ninth-graders in the Chicago area to participate in the Early Involvement Program (EIP) sponsored by the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA). The application deadline is Monday, October 16, 2006. Decisions will be made by October 23, 2006.

In its 16th year, EIP is designed to help African-American, Latino and economically disadvantaged students improve their mathematics, science and communications skills as well as increase their competitiveness if they choose to apply to IMSA.

Held at DePaul University’s Loop campus, the Saturday sessions (November 4 through February 17) include discovery-based and collaborative activities, as well as some preparation for the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Students develop research, decision-making, and self-motivation skills while studying mathematics, science and English. In addition to the Saturday sessions, students will attend an all-day retreat at IMSA (December 16).

Ninth grade African-American, Latino and economically disadvantaged students who reside in the Chicago area are eligible for the program. Applications can be downloaded from the IMSA website at http://www.imsa.edu/admissions/multicultural/EIPAPP06.pdf.  Students can direct questions to IMSA Admissions at (630) 907-5059.
