Registration Open for IMSA Kids Institute® Summer Camps

AURORA—The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) Kids Institute is now accepting student registrations for its summer 2003 camps. These enrichment programs are offered to students from the Fox Valley and Chicagoland areas who will enter grades 3-9 in the fall of 2003. Camps are held on IMSA’s campus in Aurora.

For students entering grades 3-4, Science Explorers, Jr. will be held June 23-27. The day camp features a different science topic each day, including: food science, the human body, lights-camera-action, engineering challenge and crime science investigations.

For students entering grades 5-6, Science Explorers, supported by BP, will be held July 28-August 1. The day camp features activities that explore the world’s biological and geological diversity and culminates in a final group presentation.

For students entering grades 6-7, Art a la Carte, will be held June 23-27. The day camp features a variety of art experiences, including pottery, pinhole photography, self-portraits, glass sand casting and more.

For students entering grades 7-8, Explorations in Science will be held July 28-August 1. The day camp features laboratory activities, inquiry, and group work in earth and space science, and physics principles.

For students entering grades 8-9, three programs are offered:

Math Explorers day camp will be held June 16-20. Participants explore topics of mathematics that include Discrete Mathematics, Number Theory, Geometry and Probability.

Science@IMSA Residential Camps for Girls and Boys (Boys camp - July 6-11; Girls Camp - July 13-18). These residential camps, one for girls and one for boys, explore advanced topics in science. Students are immersed in a variety of topical science experiences through lab work, model building, research and group activities.

Other summer programs offered by IMSA include:

Summer Sleuths (July 28-31). In this day camp, students use science, social science and Internet tools to solve a real-world problem. Students will present their solutions to a panel of experts. Two camps will also be held at other Chicago sites. Call (630) 907-5956 for information.
