Registration Now Open for IMSA Science Explorers at Liberty High School Summer Program

AURORA—The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is now seeking applicants for its Science Explorers program to be held at Liberty High School for all students entering grades 4-6 the fall of 2001.

Science Explorers will run from July 9-13, 2001 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon daily and will be held at Liberty High School. This innovative “kids teaching kids” program will be co-taught by high school students from the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (Aurora, IL) and Liberty High School (Liberty, IL) with supervision from IMSA and Liberty faculty and staff. The cost of the program is $80 per student for the week.

The problem-centered week will explore the possibility of the future colonization of the planet Mars. Topics covered will include: effective internet searches, food and supplies, wants-vs-needs, government, culture and transportation/rocketry. Each team will collaborate to create a Mars Presentation, complete with model community showcased at a Mars Fair, which will culminate the week.
