AURORA—Seventy-six people representing various Illinois organizations evaluated student applications to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) April 8-9 as members of IMSA’s 1999 Student Review Committee.

Local area resident(s) who served on the committee included: (see attached list).

Committee members represented various educational, professional, and civic organizations in Illinois. The group reviewed 656 student applications. Admissions decisions for IMSA’s Class of 2002 will be announced in late May. IMSA plans to admit 210 students, space permitting.

Dr. LuAnn Smith, director of enrollment services, said the Student Review Committee plays an important role in the decision-making. "The Academy benefits by receiving the advice and perspectives of respected leaders from throughout the state," she said. "Because applicants come from urban, surburban and rural communitities, we believe they should be evaluated by people who understand the differences in educational opportunities available throughout Illinois."
