Student Leadership and Development

Can Leadership be taught?

The underlying philosophies of Student Leadership Development at IMSA are grounded in the concept of leadership as a way of life best taught by example.  We deem all students as future leaders.  Through our interactions with students, we will introduce and reinforce a skill base that can be applied to students personal and decidedly unique leadership styles.

With such a diverse student body, how can Ethical Leadership be taught?

Ethical leadership, according to IMSA's definition, is based on personal and community ethical standards.  The purpose of our programs is to create an awareness of the process of formulating personal ethical decisions and opinions.  Our goal is to provoke students to think and respond to their environments using their own personal values and belief systems.

Who is responsible for Student Leadership Development?

Modeling and teaching ethical leadership is a community wide effort. Faculty are responsible for incorporating the decision making techniques and leadership skill base within their classrooms.  Residential life staff members reinforce ethical decision making every day by guiding our students' personal development. Student leaders create and facilitate leadership programs about making responsible choices and ethical decisions as well.
