Student Inquiry and Research Program Details

Reflection with the Advisor

After IMSAloquium and after completing all requirements for SIR, the student and advisor are asked to discuss the investigation process and what occurred during the course of the investigation. The reflection discussion is intended to provide for growth in further learning. As such, it should be a critical reflection of the learning experience where both the student and the advisor reflect on accomplishments of the investigaion: what things can be considered successes, and how improvements could have been made.

The student schedules this meeting with the advisor and completes the Student Summary and Evaluation of Investigation form in preparation for the meeting. In preparation for the same meeting, the advisor fills out most of the Advisor Summary and Evaluation of Investigation form, but does not fill in the project completion status section at this time.

After the reflection discussion with the student is completed, the advisor then recommends a project completion status on the Advisor Summary and Evaluation of Projects form, based on the extent to which the advisor considers the project goals to have been met. This input is used in the final assessment.
