Virtual Tour
Welcome!
Welcome to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy®, an amazing place for inquisitive minds
of all ages. Like the above Kaleidoscope that resides on our campus, our work at IMSA is colorful, dynamic and ever emerging.
On any given day, you'll find people of all ages from all walks of life here on campus to explore new ideas, try the untried and celebrate the fun of discovery and achievement. The IMSA campus is home to 650 of the state's most academically talented students in grades 10, 11 and 12 who love mathematics and science. It's also the place where Illinois, national, and international educators come to learn about the latest developments in mathematics and science instruction and where young students in grades 2 through 8 join in on the fun of hands-on mathematics and science enrichment activities. Come join the adventure of our campus tour!
... a gift from the people of Illinois to the human future.
The Illinois General Legislature chartered IMSA in 1985 to offer a uniquely challenging education for students talented in mathematics and science and to stimulate excellence in these areas at schools across Illinois.
Above, IMSA Founder and Nobel Laureate Dr. Leon Lederman engages students in his role as IMSA's Resident Scholar. As a crossroads of scholarship, IMSA attracts many prominent visitors, too. Perhaps most memorably, the late astronomer and public intellectual Carl Sagan called IMSA ... a gift from the people of Illinois to the human future.
IMSA From Above
IMSA's campus is located in Aurora, Illinois, one of the fastest growing cities in the high-tech corridor west of Chicago. It's only minutes from the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) and just a 50 minute express train ride from Chicago. Aurora and the Fox River Valley area offer many nearby attractions such as the Paramount Arts Centre, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Northern Illinois University, several private colleges and universities, Kane County Cougars Class A Baseball, upscale shopping and numerous parks, forest preserves and nature trails. A short walk off campus leads to some retail stores and fast food restaurants.
One can find more information about visiting IMSA here.

Shows of Support
Many generous donors have helped support IMSA throughout its history. We proudly list these individuals, corporations and not-for-profit groups on our Donor Wall, which we prominently display near our front entrance. At right is the Trailblazers
plaque that hangs in our Academic Pit
(IMSA's amphitheater classroom). It recognizes the gratitude felt by an anonymous alum donor towards IMSA's faculty, staff, and administration: You are the ones who keep the gears turning ...
